Return visit. Stopped here on our way down to Cornwall. Lovely situation, good facilities and friendly helpful wardens. Would thoroughly recommend this site for a short or long stay.
Second visit. We were welcomed by the lovely friendly wardens who work so hard to keep standards up. This site is perfect for walking the gorge. I would say pitches are small and tight, plus facilities due for an overhaul.
Very nice. Stayed 2 nights at lydford and enjoyed it very much . Lydford Gorge is a must The castle pub . church and castle are worth a look over . Wardens are very helpful , site WiFi . clean facilities block .all in all a very nice stop on the way to Lands End.
Peaceful retreat. Stayed a week from end of August until 3rd Sept. Wardens very efficient and helpful, very peaceful site in local non tourist village. Excellent meals in the Castle, proper local pub and only 10 minute walk. Glad we booked as very popular. We were lucky to be able to access the site wifi from our pitch and had good service all week. Toilets clean if not fancy. About 30 miles to Bude on north coast and Plymouth south so good central location for days out. Would definitely go again. As with most sites on the network, this one suffers from early arrivers, and there really is no room at the entrance to wait so wardens have to accept them. We waited in a lay by until the right time, turns out we were 6th to check in! Obviously they may not be members as this is an AS.
Great little site. We stayed a this site for two nights on our way down to Cornwall, the wardens are very friendly & helpful. We went into the far field which has the better views over Dartmoor, nice well spaced pitches but some did need a long electric cable. Lydford Gorge is an easy walk away along with the cycle trail which goes into Oakhampton. We felt that the facilities block was in need of some up dating now but was still clean & usable with plenty of hot water available. Definitely one to return to.
Fantastic Site. A firm favourite of ours for visiting in August, very peaceful and friendly site. The wardens are fantastic and extremely helpful. We stayed last weekend and unfortunately one of our dogs was poorly, the warden took us to the local vet and we got it sorted, our peaceful bank holiday weekend was saved, many thanks. The village of Lydford is tranquil and beautiful, pub is great and has a great beer garden and there is a farm shop which sells great produce. Granite way is very close so good for cyclists and lots of good walks from the site.
Great welcome. We stayed 4 nights on this lovely site. We were met at the gate by the friendly staff and were allowed to choose our pitch from several that were available. We were given very helpful information on the area. We enjoyed a walk in nearby Lydford Gorge, a cycle ride along the Granite Way to Oakhampton and a walk up Brat Tor all within walking distance from the site. We were advised that wireless reception was best available from the laundry room which had a seating area but we found we had good reception from our pitch. The toilets and showers were immaculately clean and the view over Dartmoor was fantastic. This site was one of our favourite sites for a short break and the staff are second to none. Highly recommended if you like peace and quiet with walking and cycling easily accessible from site.
A wonderful base to explore heaven on earth. The site is really clean, well managed by a really friendly bunch who provide those extra services for you. The doggy areas are wonderful and well away from the pitches. The local pub does great grub, but get there early to avoid waiting, or share a table and make new friends like we did.
Peaceful site. Very clean showers very helpful wardens local church very good visit good bus service in village lydford gorge well worth a visit you will need good boots a long hike but well worth it if you cant do the whole lot you can catch the bus back
Fantastic friendly site. Just returned from a quick 2 night break in this idyllic location and will definitely be returning. From the moment we arrived we could feel our blood pressure reducing! The wardens were great (shame they are stepping down this year although they are staying on as volunteers!)We were given a choice of pitching and chose a beautiful level one with views over the moors. The access to the site was good if you follow the directions. We walked to Lydford gorge which was a 20 minute walk from the site (take proper walking shoes !)The castle inn is the nearest pub and was great and dog friendly and the wardens booked us a table in the snug which we were grateful for as they were turning people away. There is loads of great walks from the site and quite a few pubs that you can walk to which means you can park up & relax. The bus service is ok too & we went to Tavistock which is lovely. The reception has a small shop with a couple of basic items & they will order you newspapers. There is also a farm shop nearby. The toilet block is kept spotlessly clean and is warm too in October! There is a dishwashing area, laundry, wifi hotspot , and Motorhome service point. There is a dog walking area onsite but dogs must be on leads but just off site is a sports field where we exercised our dog off the lead.Really couldn’t find anything we didn’t like about the site, it’s staff or the area!
The perfect location ! We were indeed blessed with the weather a wonderful autumnal weekend .
Views from our Motorhome were stunning .
We liked walking over the moors and the sunsets were wonderful
The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming facilities are clean and perfectly adequate .
Great walks and attractions all within walking distance including a great farm shop and two wonderful pubs . What more do you need for that perfect weekend away
This site has certainly gone to our “must visit” again list !!
Our favourite caravan site. We come to Lydford C&C site about 6 times a year. It is a perfect site with the friendliest staff you could ever meet. There is no need to use the car as you can get everything you need within a 10 minute walk – basics in the reception shop, gourmet bits and pieces in the farm shop (they even make you burgers if you ask them), and an excellent pub in the village. On top of this, there are so many good walks, you can go on a different one every day. The best one is along the West Devon Way to Brentor, then catch the bus back to Lydford. Oh, and you have to go to the top of Brat Tor and admire the view from Widgery Cross.
Well organised site. Arrived to spend 3 nights here unfortunately the 1st evening I ended up in Exeter a&e so had to return home but the site is very well maintained, great views and walking but could not explore everything…. obviously.
We had even joined national trust to explore the gorge next day.
When I fell ill they were very helpful for which I wish to congratulate them for their helpfulness, even offered me 3 nights which we missed to take later in season …something other sites have never done if we left early but being as it is 350 miles I don’t think we will take up the offer but a big thanks for that.
“2night caravan holiday ”
A really great campsite. All the staff were very happy and helpful. A very well kept site and the shower/toilet block always clean and tidy.
An on site shop with all the essentials. If you go to the top of the campsite theres a really good view across the moor which is only a couple of minutes drive away. The site is in a very quiet spot so very relaxing. Cannot see why anyone could write a bad review of this site.
Thankyou.
Touring by Motorcycle. Welcoming from the start. Clean and warm shower and utility block. It’s a small site with some hard, serviced pitches and a large field for those who like it more natural. Great view of Dartmoor to the east. The most endearing feature of this C&CC Affiliated site is the friendliness of the welcome and the helpfulness, even motorcyclists are welcome. I find that when the staff are like this it pervades the whole site – everyone says hello…
Nearby is an excellent pub/restaurant if you prefer not to do too much washing up. Lydford Gorge is spectacular and a power walk for the serious.
Perfect bank holiday weekend. The wardens on this site are extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. We saw and dealt with 6 of them and all equally good. We had booked grass and EHU and we are glad we did as the hard standing fields were much more crowded whereas the grass field was never full whilst we were there and we had a good distance between us and neighbouring vans. The views from the top of the tent field are fabulous. The wardens allowed us to stay on our pitch until 4pm which meant we could make the most of the Bank Holiday Monday by having another walk so this was really helpful, kind and most appreciated. We will definitely return as we are only an hour and a half away and we forgot how beautiful Dartmoor is – especially when the sun shines! This site has great access and is really well positioned to see it all. Great stuff – thank you!
Excellent site. We visited this site for a week in June.
The staff were friendly and helpful. We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The site was well laid out with plenty of space between pitches. The toilets were spotlessly clean.
We had a fantastic view of the nearby tors from our pitch.
This is probably the best and friendliest site we have visited and we will definitely be visiting again soon.
Friendly and inviting. Stayed here for one night with my partner. All the staff are very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Colin made us feel at home and was very helpful. The staff really made for an enjoyable stay. The pitch was spacious for our campervan and the facilities were clean.
Lovely friendly caravan site. Have just spent a week at this caravan site. Very friendly staff from when we arrived. Showed and marked on a map things that may be of interested to us. Took us to different pitches and asked which one we would like (with our large twin axle and pick up it is quite a big asking). Security very good gate open and shut as you go in or out, they are always there to help you. Toilet block very clean. Free wifi can be picked up in the laundry room but I found as we were not far from there we could get in the caravan. All they ask is if you would like to donate for a good cause. All in all a very nice week away weather could have been better but can’t have it all ways. Shall be back.
Lovely Site. We stopped on the way back from Cornwall, for 3 days.with the Caravan
Wish we had booked for longer.A lovely grass pitch, plenty of space, and views.
The welcome was great.A lovely clean site.Free Wi Fi in Wash Room.Best reception
And a short walk to the Village Pub.Which serves great food. Also near the Granite Way cycle/walk Way.to Oakhampton.A good flat ride for all, ages, though a hill at the end into the Town.Lydford Gorge well worth a visit, but steep, and expensive if not in the National Trust.
Will return to this camp site if in the area.Oh yes , a bus stop very near the site
Thanks all at the site
Great views from the tent pitch area. Great site for camping, friendly helpfull staff. Great base for walks on the moor and trips to the coast. The tent pitches are on an elevated area with great views on three of the Dartmoor Thors. Dog friendly with a special circular track on the premices itself for walking your dog.
